Overview
View sunsets through the wall of windows, or stroll down, to the historic, living beach. This property is among the sunniest on the island, and the beach is a dog’s paradise and a child’s classroom. Bring your kayaks and canoe, carry them down the path to the beach, and push out into Percy Anchorage. The beach and property are midden, meaning the earth consists of the broken clam shells left by eons of seasonal Native inhabitation. This beach remains among the best shell fishing in existence.

The Narrows between Mudge and Gabriola behave like an indecisive river, and the tide flows east, slackens, then reverses itself daily. In the spring herring run down the Narrows chased by salmon, seals, river otters, sea lions and occasionally killer whales. Ducks, bald eagles, and patient, fishing herons are regular visitors to within viewing distance of the Brickyard Beach house.

The house is a combination of new and rustic. The bedrooms still have grandma’s wall board, but also have brand new fabulous beds. The living space is in the great room style with open beams, tongue and groove walls, vaulted ceiling, and some new pine flooring. Dine at the trestle table made of beach-combed cedar.

Finally the old sway-backed barn on the property is also historic, and loved by Gabriolans. It has been used by the Gabriola Yacht Club, and is featured in many paintings. You may find a print in one if the island’s galleries. If you walk the property you will find disused furrows from ancient irrigation farming. Every step provides interest.
